Walnut-shell grit in hand cleaner: what does “100% natural scrubber” mean?
What does natural walnut-shell grit mean in workshop hand cleaner? Understand MACO Special’s scrubber, product claims and safety before ordering.
When you’re buying hand cleaner for a Perth workshop, “natural grit” sounds straightforward. But it answers one specific question: what is the scrubbing material?
It doesn’t describe every ingredient in the bottle, prove that one cleaner outperforms another or replace the product’s safety information.
MACO Hand Cleaner Special contains a 100% natural walnut-shell scrubber. Here’s how to interpret that claim when choosing cleaner for mechanics, fabrication teams, transport crews and industrial wash stations.
The claim describes the scrubber
In MACO Special, the grit is made from walnut shells. The “100% natural” description applies to that scrubbing material—not to the entire formulation.
The product also contains cleaning ingredients, skin refattening agents, fragrance and a preservative. Those components need to be considered alongside the scrubber when assessing suitability for your workplace.
For a facilities buyer comparing several products, keep the questions separate:
- What is the scrubbing material?
- Which dirt does the manufacturer say the cleaner removes?
- What hazards and handling instructions apply?
- Which bottle or cartridge fits the proposed wash station?
A natural scrubber is a useful product characteristic. It is one part of the buying decision.
Solvent-free and grit-free mean different things
MACO Special is solvent-free, but it still contains walnut-shell grit.
“Solvent-free” describes a formulation characteristic. “Walnut-shell scrubber” identifies the scrubbing material. One claim does not cancel out the other.
Likewise, choosing a larger bottle does not establish that the cleaner is stronger. The decision between a personal bottle, shared pump bottle and sealed cartridge concerns how the product is supplied and dispensed.
See the bottle and dispenser comparison for the differences between those formats.
Match the cleaner to the dirt on the job
MACO Special is intended for medium to heavy dirt in automotive, construction and metalworking settings. Its stated removal range includes brake fluid, grease, lubricants, oils, cement, rust, ink, tar, bitumen and lime dust.
That gives a mechanic, construction crew or fabrication buyer a useful starting point. It should not be stretched into a claim that the cleaner removes every substance encountered at work.
For example, a panel-beating workshop should check the information for the particular contamination involved rather than assume that a cleaner described as “industrial” covers every paint, adhesive or coating.
Build the decision around the actual job and the product’s stated capabilities.
Read the skin-care claims alongside the hazards
MACO Special is approximately pH 6–6.5 and contains skin refattening agents. These characteristics do not make it hypoallergenic, a disinfectant or free from hazards.
The product causes serious eye damage. If it gets in the eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if easy, continue rinsing and call a doctor immediately.
The CMIT/MIT preservative may produce an allergic reaction. Fragrance allergens include benzyl alcohol, linalool and d-limonene.
The safety page and downloads should be part of the purchasing review. The available European manufacturer SDS was revised in 2020; it is not a verified current Australian SDS. Request the current Australian supplier/importer SDS for workplace use.
Choose the format after checking suitability
